Replay the tutorial

The short tour you saw at sign-up is always one tap away.

1. Open your Profile tab.
2. Tap ⋯ in the top corner.
3. Tap Tutorial.

Find friends from your contacts

Your address book is hashed on your phone, and only those one-way hashes are compared. Names and numbers never leave your iPhone.

1. Tap Find friends in Explore (or on an empty Home feed).
2. Under “From your address book”, tap Connect your contacts.
3. Follow the people you know.

Tip: The Findable by my contacts switch on the same screen decides whether other people can find you this way.

Create a board

1. On Home, tap + at the top, then New Board.
2. Add a title. A description and a location are optional.
3. Under Who can see it, choose Private (only you and the people you add) or Public (anyone can find and view it).
4. Tap Start Uploading to add the first photos, or Draft to Profile to finish later.

Invite people to a board

You can invite people you follow who follow you back.

1. Open the board and tap the orange + next to Members.
2. Tap Invite Someone.
3. On a private board, choose what each person can do: View (like and comment) or Admin (upload and invite).
4. Tap Invite next to each person.

Tip: Tap Members to see everyone. Each person’s ⋯ menu has Make admin and Remove from board.

Set a board cover

A board takes on the colours of its cover. The person who made the board picks it.

1. Open the board and tap Choose cover (or Change cover) on the cover.
2. Pick a photo, or choose Automatic collage to let Passboards pick from recent posts.

Tip: You can also press and hold any photo in the board and tap Make board cover.

Follow a public board

Follow a public board without following the person who made it. New posts show up on Home.

1. Open the board and tap Follow Board.
2. To stop, tap Following, then Unfollow.

Tip: Boards that reach you because you follow their owner show a Mute button instead, which keeps them off Home.

Leave a board

1. Open the board and tap ⋯.
2. Tap Leave Board.

Tip: The posts you added stay on the board for its members.

Post photos and videos

Up to 15 photos and videos in one post. Videos can be up to 3 minutes each.

1. On Home, tap +, then Upload, and choose a board. (Or open a board, tap +, then Upload.)
2. Tap Choose from Library and pick your photos and videos.
3. Tap Add details & tag people to add a title, a description, a place or tagged friends. All of it is optional.
4. Tap Upload.

Tip: Location and camera details are removed from the files before they upload. Nobody sees where a photo was taken unless you add a place.

Edit a photo before you post

The built-in editor never touches your original. You can always go back.

1. In the upload screen, tap the wand badge in the corner of a photo.
2. Choose Filters (with an Intensity slider) or Adjust (exposure, contrast, warmth and more).
3. Press and hold the photo to compare it with the original. Revert undoes every edit.
4. Tap Done.

View photos full screen

1. Tap any photo or video to open it full screen.
2. Swipe sideways to move through the collection.
3. Swipe down to go back.

• Tap once to hide the controls, or double-tap to like.
• Videos play full screen with a scrubber, the time and a sound button.
• ⋯ has Share Link, View Likes, Go to Board and Flag, plus Edit and Delete on your own posts.

Like a whole collection

When someone shares several posts at once, Home shows them together.

1. Under the collection on Home, tap Like all.

Start a club

1. Open the Clubs tab and tap +.
2. Add a name, and a cover and caption if you like.
3. Choose Private (only people you invite can see it or join) or Public (anyone can find and view it).
4. Pick a look: a theme, a title font and an effect.
5. Tap Create Club.

Invite people to a club

1. Open the club. Under Host tools, tap Invite people to invite someone directly.
2. To share a link anywhere, tap Invites & links, then Create invite link.

Tip: Hosts control invite links and can revoke one at any time.

Plan an event

1. In the club, under Host tools, tap New event.
2. Add what, when and (optionally) where, then tap Create Event.
3. Members answer Going, Maybe or Can’t go, and can add it to their calendar.

Send an announcement

1. Under Host tools, tap New announcement.
2. Write it and tap Send to the club.

Tip: Every member is notified. A club can send 2 announcements a day.

Mute, report or leave a club

• Tap ⋯ in the club for Mute, Report Club and Report Chat.
• Leave club is at the bottom of the club’s home.

Start a conversation

You can message people you follow who follow you back.

1. Open Messages and tap the compose button.
2. Choose someone and say hello.

Tip: New requests wait under Requests until you Accept or Decline them.

Send a post, board or profile

1. Tap the paper plane on a post or in a board, or tap ⋯ on a profile, then Send Profile.
2. Choose who to send it to, add a message if you like, and tap Send.

Reactions and read receipts

• Press and hold a message to react to it.
• To turn read receipts off, go to Profile › ⋯ › Settings › Messages › Read receipts. When they’re off, you won’t see other people’s either.

Make your account private

1. Go to Profile › ⋯ › Edit Profile.
2. Under Privacy, turn on Private account.

Tip: Follow requests appear under the bell, in Follow requests. Tap Confirm or Delete.

Block someone

You won’t see their content anywhere, and they won’t see yours.

1. Open their profile and tap ⋯.
2. Tap Block. (In a conversation, tap ⋯, then Block.)

Flag or report something

• A post: open it, tap ⋯, then Flag.
• A comment: tap its ⋯ or press and hold it, then Flag.
• A board: tap ⋯ on the board, then Flag.
• A conversation: tap ⋯, then Report.
• A club: tap ⋯, then Report Club or Report Chat.
• A person: open their profile, tap ⋯, then Report.

Tip: For anything urgent or that needs context, contact support too.

Turn notifications on or off

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Tap Notifications, then Passboards.

Delete your account

Deletion is immediate and permanent. Your profile, posts and boards are removed. Messages you sent stay with the people you sent them to, from a deleted account.

1. Go to Profile › ⋯ › Settings.
2. Under Account, tap Account Deletion.
3. Tap Delete Account and confirm.

Set a new password

1. On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot or need to set a password?
2. Enter your account email. We’ll send a link to set a new one.

Use Passboards on the web

Sign in at passboards.com/app to see your feed, boards, clubs and messages on a computer, and to follow boards. Posting and replying happen in the iPhone app.

Premium

Passboards Premium isn’t on sale yet, and everything in Passboards is free. There are no ads today. Exporting a whole board, coming in the next app update, will be free for everyone too.

Add the Highlights widget

Passboards Highlights brings your posts back to you, sharp and edge to edge, in small or medium.

1. Touch and hold an empty part of your Home Screen until the apps jiggle.
2. Tap Edit, then Add Widget.
3. Search for Passboards, choose Passboards Highlights and a size, then tap Add Widget.

Tip: Tap + on the widget to choose a board and start an upload.

Choose who appears in it

1. Go to Profile › ⋯ › Settings › Widgets › Widget content.
2. Hide any account you’d rather not see on your Home Screen.

Post a song, album or playlist

Share music from Apple Music or Spotify. Friends can hear a 30-second preview, courtesy of Apple Music, and open it in their own app.

1. In Apple Music or Spotify, tap Share, then Copy Link.
2. In Passboards, tap + on Home, then Music, and paste the link.
3. Choose a board, add a title or caption if you like, and tap Post.

Choose Spotify or Apple Music

Music posts open in your app first. The other one is always a tap away.

1. Go to Profile › ⋯ › Settings › Music.
2. Choose Automatic, Spotify or Apple Music.

Share to Passboards from your music app

1. In Spotify or Apple Music, tap Share on a song, album or playlist, then choose Passboards.
2. When you see “Saved — open Passboards to post it”, tap Done.
3. Open Passboards. The music post opens with your link filled in, ready to finish.

Write a note or an essay

Short and untitled, it’s a note, shown whole as a card. Add a title, headings or lists, or keep going, and it becomes an essay with its own reading page.

1. Tap + on Home (or in a board), then Write.
2. Add a title if you want one, and write.
3. Switch to Preview to see how it will look, then post it to a board.

Tip: Drafts save as you type. Up to 20,000 characters, about 3,500 words.

Formatting tips

Use the bar above the keyboard (bold, italic, heading, list, quote, link), or type the Markdown shortcuts:

• # Heading, and ## for a smaller one
• **bold** and *italic*
• - or 1. to start a list. Return continues it.
• > to start a quote
• [words](https://example.com) for a link
• --- for a divider, and `backticks` for code

Tip: Text posts can’t hold images or HTML. Readers see where a link goes and confirm before it opens.

Club marks and addresses

Every club gets a mark (an emoji or its initials on its own colour) and its own address, like passboards.com/c/tahoe-ski-club.

1. When you start a club, pick its Mark and type an Address. Leave the address empty and we’ll make one from the name.
2. To change it later, the owner taps ⋯ in the club, then Edit Club › Address.

Tip: Old addresses keep working. A private club’s address shows only an invite-only card to people who aren’t members.

Share a post with your clubs

Members of the clubs you pick see the post in their feed and in the club’s Tagged section. Nobody else sees the tag.

1. While posting, tap Share with clubs.
2. Pick up to 3 of your clubs.
3. Post as usual.

Tip: Works for posts on public boards and on your own private boards. Hosts can remove a post from their club.

Preview a club before you join

A club invite link opens a preview first: the cover, the mark and who’s in it.

1. Open the invite link.
2. Tap Join the club, Preview to look around, or Not now.
